    Lord Jones lost his “marching virginity” when he recently joined hands with Tony Woodley, General Secretary of Unite, through the streets of Birmingham. Digby maintains that the Government must do more to retain the skills in our manufacturing sector. He says “The Government needs to understand that if nothing is done to keep manufacturing skills alive in cities such as Birmingham, international investment will ultimately decamp to Mumbai and Shanghai and even Dusseldorf”

    On the 14 May 2009 Lord Digby sought assurances on the floor of the House from the Minister of State for Defence. He asked that the government shows its support, acknowledging the role that Bomber Command displayed in the defeat of Germany in World War II and that they get behind the UK’s defence equipment manufacturing sector – a vital part of our economy and a global leader in ensuring a safer world.
